The Swiss system for monitoring prescription based veterinary-level antimicrobial prescription is planned to be implemented on January 1st, 2019. It will be managed by the Federal Food Safety and Veterinary Office and it will cover AMU in all animal species and 100% of animals.

Data collection

Animal subcategories:
Pigs: sows/boars, fatteners, weaners, sucklers;
Beef cows: veal calves, breading beef;
Dairy cows, others (such as yak, buffalo);
Chickens: laying hens, broilers;
Turkeys; goats; sheep; rabbits; horses;
Pets: cats, dogs, other pets.

: The data collection is the responsibility of the vets, based on their prescriptions.


The analyses that are foreseen will principally be using dose-based technical units and indicators, in particular the prescribed daily dose and the treatment intensity.

Benchmarking & Reporting

Benchmarking and reporting is in development and planned for implementation in 2020.
